Strobilomyces strobilaceus-Old Man Of The Woods

While hunting mushrooms in south Alabama, the Strobilomyces strobilaceus is a common find. The old man of the woods bolete is it’s more common name. Additionally, it is also called the pine cone bolete. Most noteworthy, I discovered these old man of the woods growing at the base of a pine tree. This is significant because it helps in the mushroom identification. Commonly found growing under pine or oak trees. the old man of the woods bolete are a great find for mushroom hunters.

The spore print for the old man of the woods mushroom will be blackish brown to black in color as indicated below.
