Another plant from my exotic plant collection, I have kept this parculiar plant for over two decades. The Stapelia gigantea is a unique succulent plant. It is from the family Apocynaceae. Additionally, it originates from south eastern Africa. A clump forming succulent, it poses thick green stems, averaging 1.2 inches X up to 8 inches in length.
Most sought after for it’s impressive flowers, this Stapelia showcases beautiful star shaped flowers. The flowers can be over 9 inches. Wrinkled and silky, the flowers are yellow and red in color. Additionally, it has purplish hairs along the edges of the star shaped flower. They are quite impressive.
Most noteworthy, one of the most peculiar aspects of the Stapelia gigantea’s flowers is the smell it emits. They have a strong smell resembling the odor of decaying flesh. This is mother nature at work. The pungent smell attracts insects. Therefore, pollination is guaranteed.
