The Billbergia zebrina, or Queens Tears, is a member of the Bromelaid family. The leaves have a distinctive zebra stripe effect. The blooms are absolutely stunning with vibrant colors of pinks and purple. It’s one of those plants, that when it’s in bloom, is sure to draw peoples attention.
I’ve had this plant in my care for many years. In fact, I ordered it out of the back of a magazine. Long before the internet was available. I was expecting a nice specimen plant. Consequently, upon arrival, my new Billbergia zebrina was about 2-3 inches in size. What a disappointment. In hindsight, I’m glad I held on to it. Look at at what this beautiful Bromelaid has grown into. Never Stop Exploring!
Good morning, I recently purchased a Billbergia Zebrina-The Queens Tears and love it. However, when searching the internet I came across yours and they are behaving very differently. They look identical, but my leaves are much more rigid and stand upright. I am concerned it is dry and would love any tips on how you have achieved such a large happy and beautiful plant.
Thanks,
Rena

These plants are about 25-30 years old. I ordered out of a magazine back before the internet. I really don’t do anything special for them, but I have a goldfish pond and I water them with water from it. There are hybrids that may behave differently but look the same and you could have a slight variation. Thanks for visiting my site. If you have more questions, I’m glad to help if I can. Have a nice day.
