Stinky Squid Stinkhorn: Pseudocolus fusiformis

This was the last place I expected to find a stinky squid stinkhorn. I was working on re-potting some of my carnivorous plants that I have growing in the greenhouse. As I moved a Nepenthes for a fresh re-pot, there they were. In all their glory! Hiding away under the leaves, two Pseudocolus fusiformis.

The stinky squid stinkhorn (Pseudocolus fusiformis) starts out as a round, egg looking fungi. Later, bursting at the apex, red to pinkish arms emerge. To me, the arms resemble lobster claws. They look almost other worldly.

Additionally, and be forewarned, they emit a stinky odor. Hence the name. Explore more!
