Ways To Get Rid Of Fruit Flies-Eliminate Their Breeding Ground

Fruit flies have a very short life span – only about 10 days – so if you see them around for more than a couple weeks then it’s safe to assume that they are breeding. They lay their eggs in moist areas, preferably somewhere where there is a source of fermenting, rotting food nearby. So if you get rid of their breeding ground, they will disappear within ten days.  Make sure you clean out your kitchen sink, do your dishes, make sure the bathtub is able to dry out entirely when you are not using it, and
absolutely throw out food into either a plastic bag that you tie up within a couple days or in a garbage can with a lid. The fruit flies will disappear within a week.

There are faster ways to get rid of fruit flies too, however.  If there is a concentration of them in a part of your home, try to catch them and then release them somewhere else.  Take a jar, put some food in it, preferably spoiled or close to spoiled, and then take a cone of paper and put it over the top, with the point pointing into the jar.  The flies will be attracted to the smell of the food and will fly into the jar, but won’t be able to find their way out once they’re in there.  After there are a few of
them inside, release them somewhere away from your home.

One final “way to get rid of fruit flies” is to take a small dish and fill it with a little water, enough to cover the entire bottom of the container. Put some soap in the water, and mix it thoroughly in. If the flies were to get into the soapy water, they would not be able to get back out again and would drown. Add a few drops of juice or some sort of sweet concentrate to lure them towards the water.  As soon as they touch it, they will be sucked in.

These are some of the more popular methods to rid your your house of these pest. Chances are one of them will work well for you.
